First Bikeathon a Success

How do you define success?

Riders at Bikeathon

For me as long as ONE life is blessed and changed for the better then I see it as Mission: Accomplished.

This past Saturday families from all around the Pittsburgh area gathered in the Freeport area to ride. Each was riding with one child on their hearts and pedals.

My six year old son, Hunter and myself were riding for Chhung. A little boy in Cambodia that will now have a bike and opened doors…

To attend to school.
To go to the market.
To grow in ways that I can’t even begin to understand.

All because we took a step out in faith and trusted God to mold our actions. Also, because of donations to sponsor Hunter ride.

Let’s talk numbers!

New Bikes Purchased: 29
Bikes on Site Repaired: 17
Total Donated: $1,645

Can I Get An AMEN!!

While changing the lives of over 45 families and children is a tremendous blessing to all involved – we aren’t quite finished. There is still a need and I’d love to challenge you to step out in faith. A bike to most American’s is a luxury item – a recreational vehicle of sorts.

To these children it feeds a hunger.
A thirst for knowledge.
A pain of problems solved.

It creates a life reborn and renewed in hope.

Needs still remain…

Children Needing Sponsorship for Bikes: 9
Bikes Needing TLC (repair): @ $130
Total Donations Needed: $625

Each bike costs approximately $55 to purchase and the New Hope Children’s Homes (network of ten orphaned children’s homes throughout Cambodia) receives a discount when buying in bulk.

Let’s think about this for a moment… $55.

That is less then one week of parking in downtown Pittsburgh. That is less than ten coffees from Starbucks! It’s about one-half of what the typical American spends on their cell phone bill each month. Sad isn’t it.

If you’d like to donate what’s left in your Paypal account or perhaps the change found in your couch cushions or car seats – please do so on the SEAPC Donations Page - designate it to Bikeathon.

SEAPC is a 501(c)3 organization. Donations made are tax deductible and good for the soul!
