It’s Time to Believe Again

Dear friend,

People often ask the question, are you a Mary who listens to the words of Jesus or are you a Martha, one who is busy doing? The truth is we actually need to be both — a listener and a doer.

James 1:22 instructs us to be, not only hearers of the word, but also doers. Hearing and doing go hand-in-hand, especially when we consider the importance of advancing the Kingdom of God through our churches and as individuals. How important that we hear from God, His heart, His plans and His ideas to reach Cambodia and build ministries that stand the test of time and receive God’s approval. But hearing is not enough. We need to put what we hear into action.

“… Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and you shall be fed …” Psalms 37

Trust in the Lord produces certain tangible things. One of these manifested fruits of trusting God is that a certain goodness will be seen upon you that others can benefit from directly and practically. It has been said, “If a man is a Christian, his animals will be the better for it.”

There is also a personal benefit from our trust in the Lord. As we trust Him and dwell in His presence, we enjoy the bounty of His land, “you shall be fed.” To sit with the Lord is to begin to know Him on a more personal and intimate level. As our relationship with Him deepens, we will also begin to take a certain pleasure and delight in His Being, in His personality and in His wonder!

Here, then, is the real end of what began as a simple trust in Him: our makeup, with all of its thoughts and motives, begins to take on His character traits and wholesome desires. Our delight in God effects change in our own hearts and we find ourselves longing to be like Him.

It is, then, an easy thing for us to commit our ways to the Lord and trust Him to fulfill our desires; for our desires are His desires. Our trust deepens further and faith obtains the answers sought!
