Sok Heang | 中文

At the time that I am writing this, it is a week before I leave for Cambodia and Myanmar. I am greatly looking forward to visiting each children’s home and having time with the children and staff. One of the children that I will see is Sok Heang, a 14-year-old boy.

Sok Heang

The children arrive at the homes because their parents have either died or abandoned them. The parents may abandon the kids to have a better life for themselves but, sometimes, they abandon the child because they think that it is better for the child. Sok Heang is an example of the latter. He said, “My parents divorced a long time ago and my sisters and I lived with my mother. Later we moved to the district of Phnom Prek which is close to the Thailand-Cambodia border. There, we were all farm workers. My mother worked full time and I worked part time on the farm, but we both received little salary (not enough to survive). I worked in the morning and went to school in the afternoon. One night, my mother told me that she worried about my future and  wanted me to graduate from school and have a good job for my life. She knows a woman who teaches at Hope International School and asked this teacher to help find me a home.”

Sok Heang is thriving at the children’s home. Sokhom (NHO Administrator) recently wrote, “…At the present time, he studies in seventh grade at the Hope International School (Christian School) and his favorite subject is Physiques. He is one of the top students in his school. Besides studying by himself at home, he helps to teach this subject to his friends at the home also.  When he met with our N.H.0 team at the home, he told us that he has the vision to be a doctor in the future. Please pray for him so that he has wisdom from God.”

Imagine the heartbreak of his mother when she had to give him up so that he could not only survive, but have a better chance for a  future. We know that God is using her sacrifice to bring great good for her son and for the country. Praise God for bringing hope and a future to this young man’s life through NHO!
