OBEY
The Red Sea received a Rhema. That’s right, God continues to speak to the waves and they obey. Jesus, the fullness of the Godhead on earth, spoke to the winds and the waves and they obeyed. Jesus told the disciples that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed and spoke to the mountains, those mountains would be cast into the sea.
God gave Moses many instructions before we find him on the beach with the enemy charging to kill him. Moses had to learn that when you press in to God, He presses into you as well. God is not only the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, He is also the One who draws you into a fervent and persistent search for Him and His will in your life.
Moses had no idea of purpose until he turned to that burning bush and stepped onto the holy ground of God. It was the heat and light, the overturn of natural order that caused Moses to turn aside to see. The situation was without explanation; but, in awe, the man decided to search. He decided to press in to discover the power that was greater than natural law. The bush burned, but was not consumed. (Exodus 3:3)
Moses wanted to know the One who could make this happen. And, God rewarded the diligent seeker.
Their relationship developed as Moses acted upon the Rhema he received. He returned to Egypt believing that the voice he was hearing was indeed the God who had power over fire. He saw his staff consume the snakes, he saw all ten plagues as the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh. He saw the river turn to blood and the sand to fleas. He heard the cry through the night as the firstborn were slain. He was being prepared for the Red Sea Rhema, for with it, faith would arise in his heart to do a seemingly empty thing, a simple thing, a little thing. He was being prepared to hear and do a marvelous miracle.
There they were. Israel was against the sea and Pharaoh and his 600 chariots were charging to kill them all. They complained to Moses, but he did not have ear to hear them. His mind was filled with the sound of the chariots and warriors that could not be seen. (Exodus 14)
Moses stood pressing in to God while panic gripped the hearts around him. “We should go back.” They cried.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Ex 14:14) Moses responded. Standing on the edge of the sea with an army charging and remaining calm requires faith in the word you have heard from the Lord. It requires a dogged determination to bring the promise through the veil of the flesh and into present reality. It requires a deaf ear to the words of the world and a hungering to hear the voice of God.
God spoke. “Lift up the rod in your hand and extend it over the waters.” That was all He said. So, Moses lifted the rod. You have the rod in your hand. The word of God is the fulfillment of the rod that Aaron carried. It has raised the dead, healed the sick, saved the soul, it is the power of God unto salvation to those who believe and it is as powerful today as it was with Moses.
God spoke to Moses, and Moses to the people. You are given the ability to hear from God and speak to the people. God told Moses to extend the rod and He is telling you to speak His word, the Rhema with which you have been equipped. God has given you a word. Believe it, speak it, pray it and perform it.
Moses obeyed and the water parted. As you obey, you will see the power of God at work for you.
