Walked
Press In To Press On #4
Mark Geppert
Enoch had a Rhema. Deep in his spirit, Enoch believed that God was greater than death. He believed that as he pressed into God, he would come to know life without the stress, anxiety, dread, and depression that flowed into man through the fear of death. Enoch walked with God in a culture of life. He knew that God’s desire for all men was life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)
Enoch was the seventh patriarch before the flood. The great-grandfather of Noah, he spoke to the people about walking in righteousness before the Lord, lest the Lord would come with thousands of His saints to execute judgment on all. Enoch preached repentance to a people whose words and ways were far below the standard of a Holy God.
Just as the Prophet Isaiah had called to the people to “Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his ways and the unrighteous man his thoughts. For the ways of the Lord are far above the ways of man and His Word (Rhema) which He sends forth will not return to Him void, but will perform that for which it is sent,” Enoch cautioned the people that judgment would come upon them. (Isaiah 55:6,7)
In every generation, God calls to His beloved creation to turn to Him. God knew that the great-grandson of this humble man would be the person with a Rhema to preserve the existence of humanity. Knowing the end from the beginning, He sent Enoch to cry out to the people to repent before sending Noah to deliver them.
The one who turns to God will be abundantly pardoned and God will have mercy upon him. Those who stiffen their necks, plug their ears, and defiantly turn away, will suffer judgement. God is not mocked, a man will reap what he has sown unless he turns to God with a whole heart.
Enoch was sent to the earth to proclaim that a loving God would receive all who called upon Him. You and I are here now with that same earnest message, call upon the Lord while He is near. Press into God. Seek the Lord with all your heart.
Enoch knew that the last enemy to be overcome was death. It was in his spirit from the Spirit of Truth with whom he walked. Enoch was well pleasing to God for he believed that God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Enoch knew that God would defeat the devil, that One greater than the angels would destroy the one who had the power of death and who, through fear of death, held God’s creation in bondage all their lives. (Hebrews 2:14)
Enoch walked with God. What a simple statement. You and I walk with God among people every day. We look at the people and talk to God; and, when God gives us a word, we talk to the people. This is the essence of Prayer Walking. We enter between God and man. We stand in the gap, the distance between them, and we speak to the nation, “Turn to God.” This was the life of Enoch. He “pressed on” among man in the strength he gained by “pressing in” to God. He found the strength to overcome the fear of rejection, mockery, failure, and death. God loved the fellowship. And Enoch chose the presence of God over all other things. He truly sought first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
