Press In To Press On #8

Mark Geppert

Abram had a Rhema. He heard from the Lord personally and received a word of direction. He was told to leave the Ur of the Chaldeans and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit to a place which God would confirm to him, once he got there. No overseeing committee today would ever fund or approve of anyone who came into their office with this same word. Fortunately, Abram was the first, so his faith was not determined by the level of faith of those over him; but, the reality of the voice of God in his life.

God spoke to Abram.

It can never be overstated that the ensuing obedience was made possible by the creative capacity of the Rhema from God, not the strength of the man receiving it. The power to do is in the character of the One who sends forth the Rhema. God watches over His word to perform it and the word that He sends forth will not return unto Him void; but, will accomplish what He pleases. (Isaiah 55:11) And, it shall prosper in the thing for which He sent it.

Abram believed that God is and that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) He obeyed the word the Lord had spoken to him. Abram’s faith mixed with the word given brought forth a name change in his life, a new direction for his family, a vision for a city whose builder and maker is God, and a fellowship of fatherhood like no one else has ever known. Through this God birthed relationship would come the way of salvation for his natural descendants and a spiritually generated multitude too great to be numbered out of every tribe and nation.

God spoke to Abram and Abraham obeyed.

The Rhema, or word from God, is a life changer. When God spoke to you, faith came alive in your spirit. You were born again by the will and power of God. Your title was changed from sinner to saint. You became aligned in the plan, purpose, power, and position that God had established for you from before the foundation of the earth. The power to be the new you was in the word you received, and you have been transformed by His word working in you, so that you are now being fully furnished for every good work.

Like “faithful Abraham” you are pressing in to receive that daily word that will fuel the faith in your heart and cause you also to seek that city whose builder and maker is God. You will turn to the bread of life and the water of the Spirit and find satisfaction in the presence of the One who loves more than any other. (Isaiah 55:2)

Abraham believed God and it was imputed to him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3) In the accounting of heaven, the debit of sin was cancelled by the imputation of righteousness. When you receive Christ by faith, your account was actually folded over, closed, and replaced by righteousness. Your debt is paid in full and there is a place for you in that city.

Since your future is secure, you are free to stand in the gap for others as Abraham did for Lot. (Genesis 18) You do not have to be preoccupied with your current level of faith or standing with God because He is the rewarder of those who seek Him and you can walk, as did Abraham, in the full confidence of the Lord’s provision, protection, and guidance. He, the Lord of all lords is happy to be called your Father and your God.

Press on in faith, it is God who has called you and He will do it.
